NEW ORLEANS, La. — Tulane’s homecoming turned into a rout Saturday in New Orleans, as Tulsa piled up 60 points at Yulman Stadium and sent the Green Wave to a 60-10 loss that dropped them to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in American Conference play.
The game got away in the second quarter. Tulsa led only 7-0 after one period, then exploded for 25 in the second period and took a 32-0 cushion into the break. Tulane did not score until the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, when Cooper Helmke made a 38-yarder with the Green Wave already down 46-0. The Green Wave’s lone touchdown, a 4-yard throw from Dagan Bruno to Bredell Richardson, came with two seconds left.
Golden Hurricane quarterback Baylor Hayes hit on 26 of his 33 throws, good for 338 yards and a career-best four scoring passes. Three of those scores went to Oran Singleton Jr., who caught 13 balls for 177 yards. The visitors added 224 yards on the ground. Tulsa, now 5-4, had dropped four of its previous five games, while Tulane had been 3-1 at home.
Athletic director David Harris answered the result the same night with a letter to the Tulane community. He called the performance unacceptable and well short of the program’s recent standard, said he was embarrassed it happened in front of families and alumni, and took responsibility for the department. He said the program would keep investing in football.
The loss comes in Tulane’s first season since Jon Sumrall left to coach Florida after leading the Green Wave to a College Football Playoff berth in 2025. Tulane travels to Rice on Nov. 14.
