Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Walmart has announced plans to invest millions in upgrading 35 stores across Louisiana as part of a nationwide remodeling initiative set for 2025. This ambitious project is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs while enhancing the shopping experience for consumers through better layouts, improved services, and expanded product selections.

The remodeling is part of Walmart’s broader “Stores of the Future” initiative, which aims to update and improve over 650 locations in 47 states. In addition to the renovations, Walmart plans to build and convert more than 150 stores, reflecting its commitment to enhancing in-person shopping experiences amid current economic challenges.

The Louisiana upgrades include stores in Shreveport and Bossier City, specifically:

  • 4000 Barksdale Blvd., Bossier City
  • 1125 Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, Shreveport
  • 4701 Northport Blvd., Shreveport

Over the last five years, Walmart has already invested more than $402 million in improvements within the state, bringing its total contributions to local employment and community support to significant levels. Currently, Walmart employs over 36,000 workers in Louisiana, offering an average wage of $17.90 per hour. In addition to its direct workforce, Walmart supports over 28,000 jobs through local suppliers and has invested more than $502 million with those suppliers in 2024.

The remodeling project aims to create a more streamlined and consumer-friendly shopping experience. This includes energy-efficient upgrades featuring new equipment, improved lighting, and electric vehicle fast-charging stations. Enhanced pharmacy areas will include wider aisles, private screening rooms, and checkout areas to better serve customers.

Beyond the physical renovations, Walmart plans to utilize innovative technology to improve service and infrastructure. These enhancements will feature bigger signage, expanded departments with a broader selection of items, and improvements to online pickup and delivery services. The overall goal is to provide increased convenience for shoppers and better meet their needs.

As Walmart proceeds with this investment, the company is continuing to demonstrate its strong community involvement in Louisiana. Last year, Walmart donated over $21 million to local nonprofits and community organizations, which underscores its commitment to corporate social responsibility. Additionally, Walmart contributed more than 11 million pounds of food to area food banks, translating to approximately 9.2 million meals for those in need.

The company recognizes the importance of its employees, with more than 20,000 hourly workers in Louisiana receiving performance bonuses in March. Notably, three out of every four frontline managers within the state started as hourly employees, highlighting Walmart’s focus on employee development and career advancement. Workers also have access to several perks, including company-paid college degrees, 401(k) matches, and paid time off.

Walmart’s substantial investments in store upgrades are a response to changing consumer preferences, amid concerns over inflation and rising prices. As the retail landscape continues to evolve, Walmart’s initiatives signal a strategic effort to retain market share and improve customer satisfaction in a competitive marketplace.
