New Orleans – Twin sisters Dria and Blake Jackson have launched an innovative educational initiative aimed at addressing the growing concern of early childhood illiteracy in Louisiana. As the creative minds behind Twinimation Studios, the duo has introduced the “Kreativity Krewe” coloring book series, specifically designed for children in pre-K through third grade. The first volume of this series was released in September 2023, with the intent of enhancing literacy, writing, and math skills through engaging storytelling and colorful illustrations.
The sisters were motivated to create this educational tool in response to alarming literacy rates in their home state. According to data from the Louisiana Department of Education, Louisiana ranks 46th in adult literacy, with only 46.9% of K-3 students reading at grade level. This lack of proficiency highlights the urgent need for effective educational resources aimed at younger audiences.
Dria and Blake Jackson have extensive backgrounds in animation, having studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design where they earned their master’s degrees. Their shared passion for education and creativity led them to develop resources that bridge the gap in childhood literacy. The coloring books feature main characters that are whimsical mice with snack-themed designs, with each character focusing on a different educational theme, making learning both fun and appealing for children.
In addition to the coloring books, the Jackson sisters have actively engaged with local schools to spread their literacy initiative. They have visited institutions such as Allen Ellender in Jefferson Parish, Alice M. Harte Charter, and Andrew H. Wilson in New Orleans for book showcases and hands-on activities. Their recent appearance at the Autism Festival in New Orleans featured Volume 2 of their series, which explores topics such as geography and interesting facts about all 50 states.
The “Kreativity Krewe” series aims to provide families with experiences that are both educational and entertaining. The Jackson sisters employ humor and colorful characters to appeal to both children and parents.
