Schriever, Louisiana – Tragic Fatalities in Collision

Two children were killed in a tragic vehicle collision involving a Toyota sedan and a semi-truck on Thursday evening, June 5, 2023, at about 4 p.m. The crash occurred along LA Highway 311 near Fellowship Lane in Schriever, Louisiana, and has led to an ongoing investigation by the Louisiana State Police.

Details of the Incident

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Cherri Breaux, 42 years old, was heading southbound in a 1999 Toyota Camry with three juvenile passengers onboard. Breaux reportedly attempted to make a left turn into a driveway but inadvertently entered the path of a northbound 2023 Kenworth semi-truck. The semi-truck collided with the right side of the Toyota, resulting in severe injuries sustained by the vehicle’s occupants.

None of the four individuals in the Toyota were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Despite immediate medical assistance, both a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old child were pronounced dead at local hospitals following transport. A third juvenile passenger sustained moderate injuries but survived the incident. Breaux managed to sustain only minor injuries in the collision, while the driver of the Kenworth was properly restrained and detected as uninjured.

Investigation and Safety Concerns

The Louisana State Police have confirmed that impairment is not suspected in the case of the Kenworth driver, who submitted a breath sample showing no alcohol present. Meanwhile, a toxicology sample has been obtained from Cherri Breaux as part of the ongoing investigation. As of now, the investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as new information surfaces.

Background Context

This tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about traffic safety, particularly for child passengers. It serves as a grim reminder of the importance of proper seatbelt use, as the lack of restraint may have contributed to the severity of injuries in this unfortunate situation. The crash marks a somber event in the community, emphasizing the devastating effects of vehicle accidents.

The local community and authorities are expected to reflect on this distressing event in hopes of preventing further tragedies on the roads. The Louisiana State Police will continue to explore the circumstances surrounding the incident and advise the public on road safety practices as part of their findings.
