The stabbing incident took place at approximately 4:40 p.m. in the 21700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Initial reports indicated that a passerby, a driver, witnessed a physical confrontation between two unknown males. During this altercation, one man reportedly stabbed the other multiple times. The assailant then fled the scene in a silver SUV.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the unnamed male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead upon arrival by emergency medical personnel. Following this tragic development, police reclassified the incident as a homicide, prompting an active search for the suspect.
Authorities acted quickly to apprehend Ortega. On Thursday around 6:10 p.m., officers from Troop NOLA observed a vehicle matching the suspect’s description traveling on Interstate 610. Troopers successfully stopped Ortega’s vehicle at the intersection of Fig and Dante streets, leading to his detention for questioning. Once identified as the suspect, investigators promptly obtained a murder warrant for Ortega’s arrest.
After his arrest, Ortega was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. The police are continuing their investigation, and the identity of the stabbing victim has not yet been made public.
