The storm, which included heavy rain, lightning, and winds of up to 50 mph, led to numerous neighborhoods in New Orleans reporting outages. One of the hardest-hit areas was Gentilly, where over 2,000 customers experienced a blackout just before 8 p.m. Following that, additional outages were reported in Mid-City, contributing to a peak total of over 11,100 customers without power at 8:33 p.m.
Alongside the outages in New Orleans, approximately 700 Entergy Louisiana customers in Jefferson Parish and 37 Cleco customers in Covington also faced similar disruptions. Entergy indicated that the outages were believed to be storm-related, with crews mobilizing in response to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.
By 10:30 p.m., reports indicated that almost half of those affected by the outages had their power restored. The intense thunderstorms that swept through the city brought not only strong winds but also significant rainfall that prompted concerns over street flooding.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood advisory for the New Orleans metro area shortly after 8:30 p.m., predicting estimated rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches. Areas warned about possible minor flooding included New Orleans, Metairie, Marrero, Harvey, and the surrounding regions. The storms were forecasted to taper off by around 10:30 p.m.
