New Orleans – A speeding driver caused a tragic collision involving stopped motorcycles on Almonaster Avenue shortly after midnight on June 8, leading to the deaths of two riders and injuries to two others. The incident occurred at 12:19 a.m. in the 6900 block of Almonaster Avenue, setting off a series of events that have left the community in shock.
According to police reports, two motorcycle riders, an adult man and an adult woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities and ages have not yet been disclosed. In addition to the fatalities, two other riders, also identified as an adult man and an adult woman, sustained injuries and were transported to the University Medical Center trauma center for treatment. The current medical conditions of the injured individuals have not been released.
The driver responsible for this devastating crash, 22-year-old Joshua Stevens, was arrested on the scene. He has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular negligent injuring. Following his arrest, Stevens was booked into the Orleans Justice Center jail early on Sunday morning, and his bond has been set at $150,000.
Preliminary investigations by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) indicate that Stevens was driving his vehicle at a high rate of speed when he struck the motorcycles, which were stationary at the time of the incident.
