Furthermore, schools will be instructed to source at least 20% of their food products from local Louisiana farms to bolster the local agricultural economy and encourage fresh food availability.

Additionally, the bill requires food manufacturers to incorporate QR codes on any products containing specific artificial ingredients such as aspartame and sucralose, beginning in 2028. Healthcare providers, including those in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology, will also be required to complete a minimum of one hour of nutrition training every two years, starting from January 1, 2026. This initiative underscores the importance of equipping healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge to promote better nutritional practices among their patients.

Despite its advancements, SB14 has attracted some criticism regarding its narrow focus on specific additives rather than a comprehensive approach to improving dietary quality.
