Authorities in Kenner are actively seeking Brandi Fobbs, a 41-year-old mother also known as Brandi Williams, after an alarming incident involving her young children. Fobbs is wanted on multiple charges, including two counts of child desertion, two counts of resisting an officer, and hit and run driving.
The troubling events unfolded outside a Target store located at 1401 W. Esplanade Ave. on Thursday afternoon. Concerns were raised when a passerby spotted two children, aged 1 and 8, alone inside a running Buick that was blocking handicap parking spaces. Notably, the vehicle had no license plate and lacked necessary child safety seats.
Upon discovery, the children were seen pressing buttons inside the car, activating hazard lights, and revving the engine. While local officers were attending to the situation, Fobbs approached the scene. However, she attempted to mislead authorities by providing a false name and claiming she had stepped away only for a brief “price check” at the store.
Surveillance footage from the store revealed that Fobbs spent approximately 30 minutes inside, well beyond the time frame she had suggested. As the police were working to verify her identity, Fobbs abruptly fled the scene in the Buick with her children still inside and unrestrained.
In her escape, Fobbs collided with another vehicle at the intersection of 32nd Street and Williams Boulevard, continuing onto Interstate 10 East without checking on the well-being of the occupants in the other car. This action reflected a concerning disregard for both her safety and the safety of her children.
Given the situation and the children’s lack of safety restraints, the Kenner police opted not to pursue Fobbs further. Law enforcement officials have established Fobbs’s last known address in the 500 block of St. Mary Street in New Orleans.
In light of these serious allegations and the welfare of the children involved, the Kenner Police Department is urging the public for assistance in locating Brandi Fobbs. Anyone who may have seen her or has information about her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Kenner Police Department at 504-712-2200 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
Tips can be submitted anonymously, and there is a potential reward of $2,500 for information that leads to an indictment. The safety of the children is of utmost concern, and the community’s help in ensuring their well-being is crucial.
The incident serves as a disturbing reminder of the responsibilities parents have toward their children and the potential consequences of negligence. Authorities hope to resolve this situation swiftly for the safety of the children involved.
