News Summary

An investigation is underway regarding Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas after a stillborn infant’s remains were found at a Shreveport laundry facility. The Texas Funeral Service Commission is looking into potential negligence after the remains, intended for cremation, were mistakenly transported with soiled linens. This incident raises serious concerns amid previous complaints about the funeral home’s practices. As authorities work to return the remains to the family, the investigation highlights ongoing issues in the funeral service industry.

Shreveport, Louisiana – An investigation has been launched into Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, following the discovery of a stillborn infant’s remains at a local laundry facility. The remains were found on May 27, 2025, at an Alsco Uniforms location in Shreveport, prompting the Texas Funeral Service Commission (TFSC) to expand its inquiry into the funeral home.

The infant, who was stillborn just one day old on May 3, 2025, was scheduled for cremation after a funeral service held on May 17, 2025. Mistakenly, the baby’s remains were transported alongside soiled linens, leading to the tragic discovery. Employees at the uniform facility initially mistook the remains for a doll wrapped in linens before realizing the severity of the situation.

Authorities responded to the scene around 5:30 a.m. and reported that the situation was “very disturbing.” Officers noted strong odors, significant discoloration of the remains, and evidence of embalming, including a strong smell of formaldehyde. The body was identified as belonging to an infant adorned with clothing that bore the initials “K.M.”

While no foul play is suspected, the incident has raised serious concerns regarding negligence from either the funeral home or the cleaning service responsible for handling the linens. The remains are currently in the custody of the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office, which is actively working to ensure that the child is returned to the family.

Ongoing Investigation by TFSC

Prior to this incident, the TFSC had already initiated an administrative investigation into Golden Gate Funeral Home. This was due to separate allegations concerning the mismanagement of remains and the quality of services provided by the establishment. The executive director of TFSC, Scott Bingaman, indicated that the commission aims to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

If any violations are confirmed during the investigation, the TFSC may take enforcement actions against the funeral home. The agency’s oversight comes in response to a surge of complaints regarding Golden Gate Funeral Home, with the Funeral Consumer Alliance of North Texas indicating that over 20 complaints have been submitted. These complaints detail various issues, including poor body preparation and improper embalming practices.

Historical Context of Concerns

The revelation of the stillborn infant’s remains adds to a troubling history for Golden Gate Funeral Home. Over the years, the funeral home has faced numerous complaints related to the mishandling of remains and unsatisfactory funeral services. These recurring issues have highlighted ongoing concerns about the practices within the funeral industry in the Dallas area and have underscored the critical need for regulatory oversight.

The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine how the remains ended up in Louisiana, away from the care they were supposed to receive. Community members and advocacy groups are closely watching the developments as the TFSC continues its probe, emphasizing the importance of accountability within the funeral service sector.
