New Orleans – The New Orleans Saints are actively pursuing free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis, who is set to visit the team as part of their efforts to bolster their receiving corps. This visit was confirmed recently by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
The Saints have already made moves this offseason by signing wide receivers Brandin Cooks and Donovan Peoples-Jones, signaling their intent to strengthen the depth at the wide receiver position. The addition of Davis could greatly enhance their offensive capabilities, particularly as they prepare to support a young quarterback.
Currently, Davis is not only in talks with the Saints but is also exploring opportunities with other teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Giants. This comes after a disappointing season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who signed him to a three-year, $39 million contract in 2024 but released him on May 7, 2025, resulting in a salary cap savings of $794,118 for the team.
Davis’s tenure with the Jaguars was hampered by injuries, as he managed to play only 10 games in the 2024 season, tallying just 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. His campaign was cut short earlier than expected due to a meniscus tear sustained in Week 11, which significantly limited his impact on the field.
Prior to his struggles in Jacksonville, Davis had established himself as a valuable player with the Buffalo Bills over four seasons. There, he recorded 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 29 touchdowns, earning a reputation as a big-play threat and a reliable touchdown target. During this timeframe, he averaged an impressive 17.0 yards per reception and managed to put up at least 700 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
At just 26 years old, Davis still holds potential as a significant offensive addition to the Saints. His ability to take the top off a defense could complement existing players like Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, both of whom faced their own health challenges in the past season. The Saints are hopeful that adding a skilled receiver like Davis could provide the necessary support for their passing game in the upcoming season.
As Davis weighs his options, he left the visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers without a contract, indicating that he remains in the recovery phase from his recent injury. Given the current market dynamics, if he does finalize a deal with any team, it is expected to be a short-term, one-year commitment.
