Southeast Louisiana is gearing up for a vibrant and festive Fourth of July celebration, featuring an array of events that encompass fireworks, concerts, and community service initiatives. With an expected attendance of around 500,000 people across the region, residents and visitors alike are set to enjoy the holiday weekend.

Major Fireworks Events

The festivities kick off with St. Bernard Parish hosting its 41st Annual 4th of July Festival and Fireworks Show at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center grounds in Chalmette. The event begins at 5 p.m. and culminates in a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

In New Orleans, the highly anticipated Go 4th on the River event will feature fireworks launching along the Mississippi River, starting at 9 p.m. near Jackson Square. Organizers recommend that attendees park along the riverfront for easy access. Premium viewing options are available, including from nearby paddle boats and the rooftop of Vue Orleans.

While fireworks are illegal to set off in Orleans Parish, public fireworks shows are taking place around the region, with additional displays planned for Mandeville at 8:45 p.m. and at various locations such as Olde Towne Slidell, Thibodaux’s Peltier Park, and New Orleans Riverfront, all starting at 9 p.m.

Essence Festival 2025

This year, the Fourth of July coincides with the ongoing Essence Fest 2025, celebrating the 55th anniversary of Essence Magazine. The festivities include numerous concerts at the Caesars Superdome, with notable headliners. On Friday, music lovers can enjoy performances by Maxwell, Babyface, and GloRilla. Saturday’s lineup features Jill Scott, Jazmine Sullivan, and Patti LaBelle, while Sunday will showcase Boyz II Men, Master P’s farewell show, and Nas.

Throughout the daytime, the Louisiana Convention Center will present a series of empowerment seminars and a marketplace featuring Black-owned businesses aimed at uplifting the community.

Community Service Initiatives

In Metairie, Victory Church will host a community service event, providing free food, music, and worship experiences to an estimated 5,000 attendees. The church aims to distribute over 500 pairs of shoes to those in need, highlighting a spirit of unity and service in conjunction with the holiday celebrations.

Public Safety Measures

With the influx of visitors, safety remains a top priority. Over 400 police officers will be deployed throughout the festivities, and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office plans to operate an “Operations Essence Fest” hub from Thursday through Sunday to enhance crowd control and public safety. Attendees are advised to plan their transportation ahead of time, especially as street closures in the French Quarter will restrict access to first responders, business owners, and hotel guests only.

Event-goers are encouraged to use rideshare services to mitigate parking challenges and ensure safe travel, particularly if consuming alcohol.

Weather and Local Celebrations

Weather forecasts indicate high temperatures in the mid-90s, with humidity potentially making it feel like between 100 to 105 degrees on July 4. Isolated storms may appear in the afternoon or early evening, but most areas are expected to remain dry.

In addition to fireworks, various hot dog eating contests and promotions will take place across New Orleans, with events scheduled at popular venues like Dat Dog, St. Roch Market, and Parleaux Beer Lab.

Southeast Louisiana’s Fourth of July celebration promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with excitement, community engagement, and festive spirit across the region.
