A comprehensive view of the gas pipeline network in Louisiana managed by Delta Utilities.
Entergy has finalized the sale of its Louisiana natural gas distribution business to Delta Utilities, effective July 1, 2025. This strategic move allows Entergy to focus more on its electric operations while Delta Utilities takes over the gas services for approximately 204,000 customers in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The acquisition includes extensive pipeline assets and the commitment to create new jobs. Entergy and regulatory bodies have ensured a smooth transition, aiming to maintain service continuity and customer satisfaction.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Entergy has successfully completed the sale of its Louisiana natural gas distribution business to Delta Utilities, effective immediately. This significant transaction, confirmed by Entergy’s chair and CEO Drew Marsh on July 1, 2025, marks a strategic maneuver for Entergy as it aims to concentrate more on its electric operations.
Delta Utilities, which is supported by New Orleans-based Bernhard Capital Partners, is now responsible for the natural gas services that previously catered to approximately 96,000 homes and businesses in the Baton Rouge area. Additionally, Entergy’s natural gas business in New Orleans served around 108,000 residence and commercial entities, further highlighting the scale of this acquisition.
The assets transferred to Delta Utilities include about 3,700 miles of natural gas pipelines and 2,200 miles of service lines. This will not only facilitate the continuation of services but also allow Delta Utilities to expand and enhance its operations in the region. Delta Utilities has committed to fostering new job opportunities, creating approximately 100 corporate positions to support the newly acquired operations.
In a move to ensure a seamless transition for employees, Delta Utilities has offered jobs to 200 Entergy employees, achieving a 100% acceptance rate. This effort underscores Delta’s commitment to retaining skilled labor and maintaining high service standards for its new customer base.
Approval for the sale was granted by essential regulatory bodies, including the Louisiana Public Service Commission, the City of Baton Rouge/East Baton Rouge Parish Metropolitan Council, and the New Orleans City Council. These approvals were secured following a proposal initiated in October 2023, with final consent obtained in February 2025, marking the sale as a processed and legally compliant transaction.
Despite the change in ownership, customers can rest assured that there will be no service interruptions or alterations to the current rate structures during this transition period. This approach ensures a steady relationship with customers while operations shift to Delta Utilities.
Entergy remains a significant player in the region’s energy landscape, providing electric service to over 1.1 million customers across 58 parishes through Entergy Louisiana, and serving more than 209,000 customers in Orleans Parish through Entergy New Orleans. The company is focusing on enhancing its electric services following the divestiture of its gas distribution business.
This transaction aligns with Delta Utilities’ strategy, as the company has previously acquired CenterPoint’s natural gas assets in Louisiana and Mississippi earlier in the same year. Entergy has worked closely with Delta Utilities to ensure a smooth transfer for gas customers in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, further solidifying its commitment to customer care during this transition.
This milestone not only reflects Entergy’s strategic shift to prioritizing electrical operations but also indicates expanding competition in the natural gas market within Louisiana, potentially benefiting consumers with improved service and innovation.
