McCalebb played for UNO from 2003 to 2008, and he certainly left his mark on the court. Over his basketball career at UNO, he scored an astonishing 2,679 points, making him the all-time leading scorer in the university’s history. He made an immediate impact in his freshman year, earning the title of Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in 2004, averaging 13.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. By the time he was a sophomore, he ramped up his performance, averaging a jaw-dropping 22.6 points, placing him fifth in the nation and first in the conference.
As a standout player, McCalebb continued his dominance during the 2006-07 season when he received honorable mention AP All-American status and was named SBC Player of the Year. He averaged 25.0 points, ranking sixth in the nation. McCalebb didn’t let up during his senior year either, as he finished with a phenomenal average of 23.2 points, even snagging the title of CollegeInsider Mid-Major All-American.
With a total of 128 games under his belt for UNO, McCalebb averaged an impressive 20.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game, along with a school-record 250 steals. His accolades are a testament to his work ethic and talent. He was recognized as a two-time Louisiana Player of the Year and a three-time first-team NABC All-District selection, alongside multiple All-Louisiana and All-SBC awards throughout his career.
But Bo McCalebb’s journey didn’t end with college basketball. After graduating with a degree in interdisciplinary studies from UNO, he took his talents globally, playing professionally in countries like Turkey, Serbia, Germany, and Spain. He even had the honor of representing Macedonia as part of their national team, where he ranked as the fifth all-time leading scorer.
While he had a brief preseason stint with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2015, McCalebb didn’t let go of his passion for the game. Now, he serves as the head basketball coach at Martin Behrman Charter Middle School.
