New Orleans – Antoine Massey has been recaptured on June 27 in New Orleans after six weeks on the run following a jailbreak from the Orleans Justice Center jail. The capture was confirmed by the US Marshals Service and Louisiana State Police, who located Massey in the 9400 block of Stroelitz Street in the Hollygrove neighborhood.

The recapture was made possible due to a tip received through Crimestoppers, with additional information provided to Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson via phone. Massey surrendered to authorities without resistance while alone in an unoccupied house. The arrest occurred around 3:30 PM, according to officials.

Massey, who is 33 years old, is the ninth of ten inmates who escaped during a jailbreak that took place on May 16. Derrick Groves, a convicted killer with a lengthy criminal history, remains at large. In an effort to find Groves, a reward of $50,000 has been announced for information leading to his arrest. New Orleans police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick has urged Groves to surrender peacefully.

After his arrest, Massey was transported by Louisiana State Police air support to a secure facility outside the area. He is facing additional charges related to the jailbreak and will undergo processing at the Orleans Justice Center before being transferred to Angola state prison.

Massey has a troubled background, facing pending charges in St. Tammany Parish for serious offenses including rape and kidnapping. He was also awaiting trial for charges related to domestic abuse battery and vehicle theft. His criminal history includes several previous escapes from custody dating back to 2007.

The property owner where Massey was found, who requested anonymity, reported having no prior knowledge of his presence. The house is operated as an Airbnb rental. Massey had previously appeared on social media on June 5, where he sought assistance and maintained his innocence, addressing various celebrities including President Trump and Kim Kardashian.

Colonel Robert Hodges from the Louisiana State Police emphasized that efforts to locate Groves will continue as the investigation unfolds. The local authorities have received a total of over 1,200 tips related to the jailbreak since its occurrence, indicating public engagement and concern regarding the escaped inmates.

Anyone with information about Derrick Groves’ whereabouts is strongly encouraged to contact law enforcement. Sheriff Hutson has reiterated the necessity to capture Groves promptly and has called upon him to surrender voluntarily to avoid further consequences.
