Algiers – The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is currently investigating the kidnapping of a preteen boy that took place on Thursday afternoon in Algiers. The incident occurred around 4:57 p.m. in the 2300 block of Kraft Place, while the boy was walking home from the school bus stop with his six-year-old brother.
Two men approached the children, dressed in black and wearing ski masks. The kidnappers allegedly held the ten-year-old boy at gunpoint and forced him into a van. During the chaotic abduction, the younger brother managed to escape after being pushed to the ground by the suspects. He ran home, screaming that his brother had been taken, prompting an immediate response from his family.
The abductors transported the boy to an abandoned building located on Farragut Street, just one block away from where the incident started. Inside the building, the boy and another unnamed child were made to strip down to their underwear. It was reported that the kidnappers attempted to take a photo of the boy. However, as one of the suspects left the scene, the remaining abductor indicated he would return shortly, providing an opportunity for the boys.
Seizing the moment, the children managed to kick down a locked door and escape from the building. The ten-year-old then ran home, where he was reunited with his father, who had been searching the neighborhood for him. The boy’s mother later expressed her gratitude for her son’s safe return, commending his bravery during the frightening ordeal.
After the incident, the family discovered the boy’s backpack and school clothes discarded across the street from their home. Property management representatives confirmed that the building where the abduction took place is currently unoccupied.
The NOPD has not yet identified any suspects in this case, which remains under investigation. Authorities are encouraging members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the case. Anyone with details is urged to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
As of this time, no other victims have been reported, and the investigation continues as officers work diligently to gather more information about the suspects involved.
This incident raises concerns about the safety of children in the area, and the NOPD is actively seeking to reassure the community while ensuring justice is served. Meanwhile, families are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity they may observe in their neighborhoods.
