NEW ORLEANS, La. — New Orleans Police Department detectives are asking the public to help identify a woman they say ran down a person in a gas station parking lot on Elysian Fields Avenue early Thursday and then drove away.
The crash was reported at about 2:12 a.m. at a gas station on the 3100 block of Elysian Fields, and officers arrived a few minutes later. Police said the driver left without stopping to help the victim or report what happened. The victim’s name has not been released.
Investigators described a dispute that came before the crash. Police said the victim had just bought several items when a woman took them. The victim went to the woman’s car, where she was sitting, and asked for the property back, and police said the woman then hit the victim with the vehicle.
The NOPD has released photos of the woman it believes was driving. Police describe her as a white woman with dark hair and gray roots. Detectives say she was in a blue four-door Toyota sedan, and the car is easy to spot because a spare is bolted on where the right front wheel should be.
Detective Jason Naquin, who investigates traffic deaths for the department, is taking calls at 504-658-6214 and 504-259-9113. Anonymous tips are accepted by Crimestoppers, reachable at 504-822-1111 or the toll-free line 877-903-7867, and a tip that helps solve the case can earn a cash reward.
No arrest had been announced as of Thursday, and police have not said whether the woman knew the victim before the encounter at the gas station.
