New Orleans and surrounding parishes are set to host an exciting Fourth of July weekend featuring the beloved ESSENCE Fest, spectacular fireworks displays, and a variety of citywide events. Festivities will kick off on July 3 and run through July 6, with event-goers enjoying a multitude of activities that highlight the rich tapestry of Black culture.

The ESSENCE Fest will take place at the Caesars Superdome and throughout downtown New Orleans. This year’s theme, “We Are ‘Made Like This.”, reflects a celebration of community, resilience, and creativity within the Black community. Major musical acts headlining the festival include renowned artists such as Boyz II Men, Nas, Summer Walker, Davido, GloRilla, Maxwell, The Isley Brothers, as well as a special tribute to Quincy Jones by Master P and Jermaine Dupri.

Beyond the music, ESSENCE Fest will offer a wide range of activities, including daytime panels discussing various social issues, free empowerment talks, and an outdoor market showcasing local businesses. Ticket options for the festival cater to a variety of attendees, including single-day passes and VIP experiences. Some daytime offerings are entirely free with prior registration.

Fireworks Shows

The highlight of the Fourth of July celebrations will be the Go 4th on the River fireworks show, which is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. on July 4 along the Mississippi Riverfront. This stunning display is free to the public and can be viewed from both banks of the riverfront, extending from the Hilton Riverside to the French Market District. This year’s show promises to dazzle attendees with new effects, including a visually striking “Patriotic Peacock Tail Fan” of red, white, and blue comets.

Other Events and Activities

In addition to the fireworks, a variety of events are planned throughout the weekend. On July 4, visitors can enjoy:

  • Patriotic Calliope Concerts on the Steamboat NATCHEZ at 10:30 a.m., 1:45 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.
  • Performances by the Irish a cappella group Trinitones at Oscar Dunn Park at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • The General Roy S. Kelley fireboat water show between 6:30–7:00 p.m.
  • Various shopping, food, and music activities throughout the French Market.
  • An adults-only pool party at the Hilton Riverside from 8–11 p.m. with a ticket price of $40.

Local Celebrations

Nearby areas also have exciting events planned for the holiday weekend. In Jefferson Parish, the Uncle Sam Jam will celebrate its 30th anniversary at Lafreniere Park on July 3, starting at 3 p.m.. The event will feature headliner Don McLean performing his classic “American Pie” alongside country band Shenandoah. The evening will end with a fireworks show set to patriotic music at 9 p.m.

Slidell’s Independence Day event is scheduled for July 4, commencing at 4 p.m. at the 2200 Block of Carey Street. Attendees will indulge in live music, kids’ activities, and food vendors, culminating in a free fireworks show at dusk.

Mandeville will host the Light Up the Lake Festival on the same day, featuring a lakeside picnic beginning at 10 a.m., a parade at 3 p.m., live music, and fireworks at 8:45 p.m.

The Let Freedom Ring Festival in Thibodaux will kick off at Peltier Park on July 4 at 3 p.m.. This family-friendly event will include a complimentary breakfast for veterans, live music, a cornhole tournament, and a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

In Madisonville, Fourth of July festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and will conclude with fireworks at 8:45 p.m.

As families and attendees head out to enjoy the Fourth of July celebrations, it’s vital to note that personal fireworks are illegal in Orleans Parish and most of Jefferson Parish, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
