News Summary

The community of New Orleans prepares to pay their respects to Dylan James Hursey and his father Joseph Menendez Hursey at a graveside service. The heartfelt tribute from the family reflects the profound love they shared, emphasizing the impact Dylan had in his brief life. Joseph, a veteran and dedicated family man, leaves behind cherished memories for his family and friends. The service aims to celebrate the enduring love and memory of both father and son.

New Orleans – Dylan James Hursey will be laid to rest alongside his father, Joseph Menendez Hursey, at a graveside service scheduled for Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The burial will take place at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, located at 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans.

The family has expressed their grief and love for Dylan through a heartfelt tribute, which emphasizes the brief but profound impact he had on their lives. It reads, “In one little package you brought hope and dreams. You were only here for a while. You became an angel, a tiny soul takes flight. A moment in our arms, a lifetime in our hearts.”

Joseph Menendez Hursey, who was born in New Orleans on August 2, 1949, was preceded in death by his son, Dylan, as well as his parents, Arthur and Mary “Bettye” Hursey. He is survived by his wife, Teresa “Terri” Frisby Hursey, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. Additionally, Joseph is survived by his daughter, Traci Michele Hursey, and his granddaughter, Dylann Hursey. He is also remembered by his three sisters: Katherine “Kay” Hursey Andre, Mary Beth Hursey Lanassa, and Jan Marie Hursey, along with his niece Gina Gatti Finney and nephew Frank Ross Gatti, IV.

Joseph was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Kitty Hawk. After his military service, he enjoyed a successful 30-year career with South Central Bell / BellSouth, retiring in 2002. Joseph was actively involved in his community as a member of the Krewe of Dreux, where he held the honor of reigning as King XX.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service to pay their respects to both Dylan and Joseph at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. Attendees can view and sign an online guest book in memory of the two at www.lakelawnmetairie.com.

The upcoming service aims to honor the memories of both father and son, celebrating their lives and the enduring love of their family. As the community comes together for this occasion, it serves as a reminder of the bonds of family, the importance of remembrance, and the cherished memories that remain in the hearts of loved ones.
