Corpus Christi, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders secured a place in the Southland Tournament after defeating the New Orleans Privateers 11-5 on Saturday at Chapman Field. This victory was largely anchored by a decisive fourth inning in which the Islanders scored five runs, solidifying their lead and ultimately their tournament berth.

The Privateers entered this game under pressure, particularly as they were already facing challenges in the standings due to Nicholls’ earlier loss in the first game of a doubleheader. This defeat placed New Orleans in a precarious situation, needing a win to secure a better position in the tournament standings.

New Orleans started strong, taking an early 2-0 lead thanks to a series of crucial mistakes made by the Islanders, who committed four errors in the first two innings. The scoring began in the first inning when Tristan Moore crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Jahlani Rogers. The Privateers added to their advantage in the second inning following a double steal executed by Collin Loupe and Bryce Calloway, which allowed another run to score.

However, the Islanders responded in the third inning. Austin Russell and Isaac Webb contributed significantly to the scoring with two-out RBIs that equalized the game at two runs apiece. New Orleans soon regained the lead with a solo home run from Collin Husser, marking his ninth of the season and putting the scoreboard at 3-2.

Despite this resurgence, the Islanders bounced back emphatically in the same inning. They scored five runs, taking the lead for good. A sacrifice fly by Karson Krowka initiated the rally, and a two-run single by Drake Kerr helped push the Islanders ahead. They not only reclaimed the lead but also extended it with an additional run before a lightning delay stopped play at 7:18 p.m., with the Islanders leading 7-3.

Zach Garcia was pivotal on the mound for the Islanders, earning the victory with a strong performance over seven innings, during which he struck out five batters. Overall, the Islanders showcased offensive depth, collecting a total of 13 hits throughout the game, with Drake Kerr standing out by tallying three hits and scoring four runs for the team.

On the other side, the Privateers managed to secure nine hits, with players like Karson Evans and Bryan Loriga each contributing two hits. Trey Usey managed to pitch 1.1 innings scoreless, trying to hold back the Islanders’ strong offensive push, while Jake D’Altrui added a double to New Orleans’s efforts.

The regular season will wrap up on Sunday with a final matchup that will determine the 7-seed for the tournament. Fans can expect the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. as both teams look to finalize their standings before heading into postseason play.
