New Orleans Embraces DJ KILOBAUUD’s Dynamic Influence on the Dance Music Scene

KILOBAUUD, a prominent figure in New Orleans’ dance music landscape, is transforming the local scene with innovative events and a newly launched record label. Previously known as Lil Jodeci, KILOBAUUD has made significant strides since he began his DJing career in 2011 after transitioning from a valet and life insurance sales role.

His journey into the world of DJing began as a casual pursuit, triggered by health issues stemming from his previous job. KILOBAUUD discovered that performing paid more and was more rewarding than his former career. Initially focused on hip-hop music, he later shifted to house music, which he found to be more fulfilling and relevant to his artistic vision.

KILOBAUUD has played a pivotal role in cultivating the local dance scene by launching several key events. His first significant event, Lemon Head Sundays, commenced in 2011, establishing his reputation as a renowned DJ and event producer. In 2016, he introduced the Pink Room Project, an underground dance event that focused on what he terms “chaos culture.” In 2017, he expanded his influence with Set De Flo, an immersive experience that features unique dance and electronic mixes reminiscent of the iconic Studio 54, promoting self-expression and uninhibited movement.

Over the years, KILOBAUUD’s events have attracted a loyal following among both locals and visitors, offering spaces where participants can freely express themselves through dance. The events were previously emceed by Lord Chilla, who provided humorous and empowering commentary, further enhancing the audience’s engagement.

In a bold move to encapsulate his artistic evolution, KILOBAUUD recently rebranded himself, changing his name from Lil Jodeci to KILOBAUUD. This new name reflects a deeper commitment to performance art, technology, and the multifaceted nature of his artistry. In March, he released a new album titled “Swamp Nighas from Under Space,” featuring seven layered tracks that blend dance and electronic music with influences from New Orleans bounce music. The album is characterized as international, timeless, experimental, and trippy, showcasing his innovative approach to music composition.

As part of his continued efforts to elevate the local music scene, KILOBAUUD is evolving Set De Flo into a Black-owned record label. This initiative aims to support local talent by providing essential infrastructure for artists to create and generate revenue. He emphasizes the importance of reclaiming bounce music and lifting up the narratives of Black artists within the genre.

In addition to nurturing local talent, KILOBAUUD is working to attract financial investment for aspiring artists, offering platforms that empower them to thrive creatively and economically. He invites audiences to engage with his artistic vision and appreciate his raw creative expressions without fear of judgment.

KILOBAUUD continues to work diligently towards reinvigorating the New Orleans dance music scene, leaving a lasting impact on both local artists and fans. Updates on his projects are regularly shared on Instagram under the handle @kilobauud.
