New Orleans Brings Easter Cheers with Three Colorful Parades on April 20

Get ready to let loose and have some fun because New Orleans is gearing up for a vibrant Easter celebration like no other! On April 20, the city will be alive with the sounds of laughter, music, and lots of colorful festivities. Whether you’re decked out in your fanciest attire or simply looking to enjoy the charm of the Crescent City, there’s something for everyone this Easter Sunday.

The Historic French Quarter Easter Parade

Starting off the excitement is the Historic French Quarter Easter Parade, set to kick off at 9:45 a.m. This delightful parade launches from Tableau restaurant located at 616 St. Peters Street and winds its way through the iconic streets of the French Quarter, wrapping up at the beautiful Jackson Square.

As the parade progresses, you’ll find enchanted riders showcasing their stunning Easter bonnets while cruising in all sorts of transportation including convertibles and charming mule-drawn carriages. Looking for a spiritual connection? No worries! The parade allows riders to attend the 11 a.m. Mass at the historic St. Louis Cathedral, with additional Mass services held at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This captivating combination of tradition makes it a special event for all ages.

The French Quarter Easter Parade

French Quarter Easter Parade, stepping off at 1 p.m. This beloved event, previously known as the Chris Owens Easter Parade until the entertainer’s passing in 2022, is honoring its 40th anniversary this year with a new route that proudly avoids the bustle of Bourbon Street.

The parade kicks off right from the intersection of Royal and St. Louis Streets. Expect a lively procession that will travel down Royal to Iberville, take a left to Decatur, saunter past the enchanting Jackson Square, then turn left on Dumaine, and finally circle back to Royal Street. It’s a new twist that promises to keep the spirit of celebration alive!

The Gay Easter Parade

And don’t miss out on the fabulous Gay Easter Parade, which begins at 4:30 p.m.. This annual event is a dazzling showcase that celebrates the creativity and spirit of the LGBTQ+ community with vibrant costumes, joyous music, and plenty of dancing. Marking its 24th year, this parade also supports a great cause—funds raised will benefit Food for Friends, a part of CrescentCare.

The celebration features grand marshals Malaysia Walker and William Antill, leading a spirited procession that starts at Armstrong Park (located at North Rampart and St. Ann). The parade then travels down St. Ann to Bourbon Street, takes a left onto Esplanade Avenue, and loops back along Royal Street, finally making its way back to Armstrong Park. Don’t miss this incredible display of love and unity!

A Day for Everyone

The entire Easter Sunday experience in New Orleans is brimming with cultural fun that caters to families, friends, and everyone in between. With lively parades featuring creativity, tradition, and plenty of community spirit, there’s no doubt you’ll leave with a smile on your face and memories that last a lifetime.
