Public Schools:

The city’s public education system is unique, with a significant emphasis on charter schools. As of the 2024-2025 school year, the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB), branded as NOLA Public Schools, oversees 67 of the 74 public schools in the parish. This includes one direct-run school and 65 charter schools operated by 31 non-profit Charter Management Organizations.

In terms of student demographics, approximately 43,500 students attend public schools in New Orleans. Of these, 92% are students of color, 84% are economically disadvantaged, and 13% are students with disabilities.
