SAINT-DENIS, France — The New Orleans Saints could not get their ground game going in Saint-Denis on Sunday and lost 16-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Stade de France in the first NFL regular-season game ever played in France.

New Orleans finished with only 18 rushing yards on 17 carries, and the loss drops the Saints to 2-5. Pittsburgh moved to 5-2 and has now won three in a row.

Quarterback Tyler Shough was efficient through the air, going 30 of 38 for 278 yards with a touchdown. His one mistake proved costly: Steelers linebacker Payton Wilson jumped a short throw meant for Chris Olave in the red zone early in the third quarter, ending a Saints drive that could have taken the lead.

Pittsburgh turned that turnover into a 39-yard Chris Boswell field goal for a 16-10 edge, and neither team scored again. Boswell made three field goals on the day, including a 47-yarder in the final seconds of the first half after the Steelers raced their kicking unit onto the field without a timeout.

The Saints had tied the game 10-10 in the second quarter when Shough found Devaughn Vele for a 1-yard touchdown on fourth down at the goal line. Kicker Daniel Carlson later missed from 52 yards in the fourth quarter, and Patrick Queen sacked Shough on a third down with under seven minutes left to stall another New Orleans possession.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 212 yards and a touchdown for Pittsburgh, and Jaylen Warren ran for 101 yards. A crowd of 78,488 filled the stadium north of Paris for the historic game.
